Ingredients

1 pint whipping cream

4 egg yolks

1/2 cup sugar

1 Tablespoon vanilla

1/8 teaspoon salt granulated sugar

Preparation

Scald cream. Beat egg yolks and sugar until thick (about 3 minutes.) Gradually stir in cream, vanilla, salt. Pour into individual shallow baking cups. Set cups in baking pan, add hot water to come halfway up sides of cups. Bake 350° for 45 minutes. Remove from water; refrigerate several hours. Sprinkle each custard with 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar. Broil about 3 minutes until tops begin to brown. Refrigerate before serving.

Note: Larry ‘broils’ the sugar with a blowtorch.
