Ingredients

CAKE

1 1/2 cups flour

3 T. cocoa

1 tsp. salt

1 cup sugar

1 tsp. baking soda

5 T. oil

2 tsp. vinegar

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup cold water

FROSTING

1/4 cup butter

1/4 cup cocoa

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla

2 T. milk

Preparation

CAKE

  1. Sift flour, sugar, cocoa, salt, and baking soda into an ungreased 8 inch square pan

  2. Make 3 holes in the flour mixture with the back of a wood spoon

  3. Pour oil into one hole

  4. Pour vinegar into one hole

  5. Pour vanilla into the remaining hole

  6. Pour water over the entire mixture

  7. Stir with a wire whisk until well mixed

  8. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes

  9. Melt butter in a saucepan

  10. Add cocoa to melted butter, stir

  11. Add powdered sugar to cocoa mixture. Stir until smooth

  12. Spread frosting on top of cooled cake. Cut into bars and serve on plates
